Despite controversey, Whitley Co. officials say rezoning was never about CAFO

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Since August, Whitley and Allen County residents have been fearing a property being rezoned to build a Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO).

Members of the public claimed that Brian and Sonya Emerick (owners of the property located at 7383 S. 700 East) were going to turn farmland into an agricultural meat, dairy, or egg facility where animals are kept and raised in confinement in concentrated numbers.

To open a CAFO (or a smaller version called a CFO) they would need the county commissioners to rezone two parcels of land, 140 acres, from Agriculture (AG) to Agriculture Production (AGP)…
