The Original Donut Queen celebrates her 104th birthday at the DeKalb County Free Fall Fair

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – It was in 1949 that the Order of the Eastern Star Spencerville Chapter 386 burnt down. Donuts became the unlikely hero to rebuild the Order.

Fara Lee Bindinger had an idea 76 years ago. Take her father-in-law’s donut recipe and sell the delicious treat as a way to raise funds for the Spencerville Order of Eastern Star. They were an instant hit. That first year, the Order raised around $800, almost $11,000 today.

Today, generations still come out to enjoy the family recipe that has been shared with northeast Indiana. To celebrate her 104th birthday, Fara Lee handed out 104 free donuts at the Free Fall Fair…
