City of Fort Wayne opens applications to replace faulty heating systems for qualifying homeowners

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – In preparation for the winter, homeowners in the city of Fort Wayne can see if they qualify to apply for a grant that covers the cost of replacing a faulty heating system.

Thursday, the city announced in a press release its new “Hope Through Heat” program. Qualified residents must own a home with a unit that doesn’t work, whether that be a furnace, boiler, electric heat kit or heat pump. Applicants also have to live in city limits and have a household income at or below 50% of the Area Median Income, which comes out to about $45,000 for a family of four.

Applicants have to get through pre-screening questions to determine qualification before being able to fill out the full form. Required documentation includes household income and inspection of the faulty heating system. Applications are available online; a physical copy can be obtained by calling 260-427-8585…
