Suspect Leads Fort Wayne Police on Chase, Ends in Standoff and Hospitalization with Life-Threatening Condition

Early Monday morning in Fort Wayne, police responded to a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle on the 2600 block of N. Clinton St. around 8:40 a.m. When approached, the man claimed to be armed and fled, leading officers on a pursuit.

According to the City of Fort Wayne release, the chase ended with a crash at 100 E. Superior St., where the man refused to leave the vehicle and threatened “suicide by cop.” Negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation, but after repeated attempts failed, the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Aerial Support Unit deployed chemical munitions. The suspect was then taken into custody and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries…
