Early Monday morning in Fort Wayne, police responded to a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle on the 2600 block of N. Clinton St. around 8:40 a.m. When approached, the man claimed to be armed and fled, leading officers on a pursuit.
According to the City of Fort Wayne release, the chase ended with a crash at 100 E. Superior St., where the man refused to leave the vehicle and threatened “suicide by cop.” Negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation, but after repeated attempts failed, the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Aerial Support Unit deployed chemical munitions.
