FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Anyone who travels the stretch of Illinois Road from I-69 to West Jefferson knows it’s in need of repairs and improvements. If a proposed plan is approved by Fort Wayne City Council, that stretch will look vastly different in a few years.
On Tuesday, an improvement plan was introduced before council with a price tag of over $9 million.
The plan calls for resurfacing the road from Grand National Drive/Magnavox Way by Menards all the way to West Jefferson. Illinois Road would also be widened from Getz Road to the Avenue of Autos and offset turn lanes would be added to four intersections.
Another significant part of the plan is to build a 10-foot wide multi-use trail from Getz Road to North Rockhill Park, which will help in efforts to connect trail sections together.
