Auburn native documents how dementia patients befriend AI

GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) – An Auburn native shares his thesis film centered around how a robot can make living with dementia less lonely.

“It can connect with you, it can build a conversation,” Indiana University graduate Jack Bassett said. “It can take time where they might feel lonely and give a senior citizen something to relate to.”

Bassett saw his beloved grandma develop dementia. He said it was hard for him to see someone he loved – who had lived such a beautiful life – suffer from memory loss and loneliness.But while he was in school at Indiana University, he learned new ways robots are keeping dementia patients company, sparking his inspiration for “Remembering the Future with IRIS.”…
