The case of the curious ostrich at Fort Wayne Zoo

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Perhaps the most curious animal at Fort Wayne Zoo is Penny the Ostrich. She’s known for her playful, and often nosy, antics on the veldt in the African Journey.

After she kept showing up in Wild on WANE shoots with other animals, it seemed fair that she get the spotlight too.

“Penny is a very, very curious animal, perhaps the most curious animal we have at the zoo. She has no personal boundaries. We go out there [on the veldt] with [the animals] at least twice a day, every day, and she is always the first to greet us and the last to say goodbye. She follows us from the gate and back to the gate, and yeah, she’s very interested in what we do out there,” Taylor Keddie, an Animal Care Supervisor in the African area, said.

Penny turned 15 years old in August. She’s been at the zoo since 2012…
