Crash at U.S. 33 and County Road 31 sends two to hospital

Two drivers were injured following a crash involving a pickup truck hauling a camper and a cement truck at the intersection of U.S. 33 and County Road 31.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when a Dodge Ram driven by a 68-year-old Fort Wayne man was traveling southeast on U.S. 33, hauling a Cougar Half-Ton RV. Investigators say he failed to stop for a red light and struck the driver’s side of a northbound 2015 Oshkosh cement truck driven by a 46-year-old Elkhart man, who was preparing to turn northwest onto U.S. 33.

The impact caused heavy damage to both vehicles and the attached RV. The Elkhart man was taken to Goshen Hospital for treatment of arm and head pain. The Fort Wayne man, who initially declined medical transport, later went to the hospital for chest and rib pain…
