William Loveman Place was born February 4, 1891, in Broughton, Ohio, the son of Frank Amos Place, born November 29, 1866, in Allen County, Ohio, and Minnie Belle (Workman) Place, born March 1874 in Brown Township, Paulding County, Ohio. The couple was married June 15, 1889, in Paulding, Ohio. By 1890, Frank and Minnie were living in Broughton.
Frank was working various odd jobs. They were the parents of four children, all born in Broughton: William Loveman, born in 1891; Phoebe Ellen, born June 15, 1893; Nellie Mae, born December 23, 1895; Frank Dewey, born August 24, 1898
By 1900, the Place family was living in Paw Paw, Wabash County, Indiana, where Frank was employed at a stave mill as a jointer.
