FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Indiana Michigan Power, headquartered in downtown Fort Wayne, is squarely in the conversation about the state’s nuclear build-out as a startup announced plans for an Indiana “energy park” and manufacturing hub and state leaders push multiple reactor options, according to company and state materials.
First American Nuclear said it will locate its headquarters and factory operations in Indiana and develop a closed-fuel-cycle energy park, a move the company and Governor Mike Braun say will bring about 5,000 jobs to the state, according to a Tuesday news release.
Separately, the number of reactors now on Indiana drawing boards is at least seven: the startup is evaluating several sites to install six systems using its 240-megawatt lead-bismuth fast reactor, and I&M and parent American Electric Power are studying a single GE Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactor at I&M’s Rockport site in Spencer County, according to Bloomberg and company statements…
