Police get word of possible street racing, employ helicopter to give tickets and make arrests in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Indiana State Police troopers and officers with several other police departments collaborated this past Friday after hearing rumors of a large car “rally” and plans for street racing in Fort Wayne.

A news release issued Monday by Indiana State Police does not give specific locations where the street racing was planned to take place, but it did indicate that the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the New Haven Police Department all participated. Indiana State Police made use of a department helicopter to spot large gatherings of vehicles.

As officers moved into areas where street racing or street takeovers might take place, the large crowds would disperse. Despite that, several arrests were made, 32 tickets were given, along with 59 warnings…
