FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — This winter, the City of Fort Wayne is offering warming centers during the day and overnight options for unhoused individuals and families as part of its Winter Contingency Plan.
The cold, often seen as a mere inconvenience to the sheltered, can be deadly for those without a home. Exposure to cold can lead to hypothermia, frostbite or even death. According to the CDC, there was over a thousand deaths in 2023 due to excessive cold or hypothermia.
Starting December 1st, overnight shelter will be available at the Rescue Mission, Saint Joseph Missions Women’s Shelter, and Just Neighbors. Warming Centers will be available during the day and early evening. You can find those locations here…
