ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — An Adams County rescue is concerned over a proposed commercial dog breeder on this week’s county government agenda.
Last month, applicants Leander and Rebecca Schwartz applied for a commercial dog kennel that would house 15 female and five male Rottweilers and Boxers. Leander told WANE 15 he had always wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and breed dogs for a living.
Hartford Township neighbors received a letter in the mail earlier this month, notifying them of a Board of Zoning Appeals and a Plan Commission meeting, both scheduled for Thursday, November 20th. The board’s 6 p.m. meeting will discuss a Development Standard’s Variance, which would allow that commercial kennel to be built as close as 341 feet to seven surrounding houses, surpassing the minimum 1000-foot requirement.
