Man linked to shooting in Showgirl I lot sentenced

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne man who pleaded guilty to aiding a gunman in a 2024 shooting was sentenced Friday, just over a year after the investigation began.

A judge in Allen Superior Court sentenced 31-year-old William Tolbert to 12 years in prison for his role in a shooting that killed a woman and injured two men outside of Showgirl I off Goshen Road.

His accomplice, 28-year-old Breshawn Smith, was found guilty of murder earlier this month in connection to the shooting, which led to the death of 26-year-old Marialuz Margarita Munoz. Smith was also found guilty on two counts of attempted murder, criminal recklessness and using a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Investigators determined that on Nov. 16, 2024, Tolbert was driving a car and Smith – from the passenger seat – fired more than 20 shots into a crowd in the parking lot of the club…
