First Alert Forecast: Snow-covered roads causing tough travel through Sunday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – We’ve issued First Alert Weather Days for Saturday and Sunday because of the expected impacts from this winter storm.

As of Saturday afternoon, several crashes have happened, and even part of I-69 in Grant County was closed due to a crash. Travel problems are expected through the weekend

WEEKEND TIMELINE

Saturday evening: – Sunday am: Widespread snow, hazardous travel. Lows in mid 20s.

Sunday: Scattered lake effect snow. Travel improving, but refreeze is possible late. Highs in low 30s.

SNOW TOTALS

As of Saturday around 4:15pm, an estimated 1-3″ of snow was already on the ground in many places, and the most intense snow is expected through Saturday evening.

From Saturday through Sunday night, snow totals will generally be around 6″ or more for places along US 24, including Fort Wayne. This is a slight increase from Saturday mornings forecast, which had Huntertown in the 6-8″+ range, but not Fort Wayne…
