Fort Wayne Fire Department urges caution with space heaters as temps drop

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – As temperatures drop across northeast Indiana, the Fort Wayne Fire Department is reminding residents to use caution with space heaters and winter heating sources to prevent fires.

“You’re sitting on the couch and you have a blanket on yourself. You might have thought that you were three feet away from that space heater. All of a sudden you move, and you kind of knock the blanket over,” said Assistant Chief Jonathan Flickinger.

“Make sure you’re shutting the space heaters off at night and keeping a safe distance from blankets or furniture.”…
