Mayor Tucker on Fort Wayne casino: too big to pass up

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — During testimony Thursday morning on House Bill 1038, Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker called the opportunity for a state-regulated casino “too big to pass up,” giving the idea full support.

Tucker said the city had already reached an agreement with the Allen County Commissioners to share casino tax revenue based on population, regardless of where an operator might choose to locate a possible casino.

When asked if she would favor a public referendum to determine the casino’s fate, she said she never opposes allowing the public to speak, but suggested speed is important to get a jump on a possible tribal casino by the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, which has acquired land on Fritz Road…
