Former Wells County Coroner and Bluffton Police Department officer accepts plea deal in domestic battery case

BLUFFTON, Ind. (WANE) A former Bluffton Police Department officer who also served as the Wells County Coroner has accepted a plea deal in a case where he was accused of pointing a gun and strangling a woman he was living with.

Police arrested Clifford Thomas on November 6 after investigating an alleged domestic violence incident involving his domestic partner at his home.

According to court documents filed in the case, the domestic partner told police that Thomas lifted her off her feet by her neck and threw her to the ground after they got into an argument. The woman said Thomas fell on top of her and “put his fist in her face.” She said she thought her spine was going to break.

In the court documents, it says that Thomas had threatened to kill himself with a gun more than once, then threatened to kill her, saying the “trigger pulls so easily.”…
