Indiana has been eyeing another casino license, seeking to issue a new license for Fort Wayne, a city in northeastern Indiana. However, the situation has turned out to be more nuanced than expected.

Indiana Eyes 14th Casino License

Proponents of expanding Indiana’s casino industry have sought to introduce another casino license, submitting several separate casino bills. While some have eyed transferring an existing casino license from southern to northern Indiana, others have proposed issuing a new license.

As the Fort Wayne talks have moved forward, other representative areas have also joined the discussion, encouraging deeper talks about the best possible location for a new casino. A recent study by the Indiana Gaming Commission has named Indianapolis as the top location, followed by northeast Indiana, where Fort Wayne is based.

Fort Wayne, for context, is Indiana’s second most populous city and the 83rd most populous city in the United States. While experts determined that the Indianapolis region would be more lucrative in terms of taxes, they also noted that a local casino could hurt the nearby casinos in Shelbyville and Anderson.
