Public hearing in Fort Wayne on water rate increase Dec. 17

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) is inviting public comments on Fort Wayne’s proposed water rate increase through January 23, 2026. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) will hold a public hearing on December 17, 2025, in Fort Wayne to gather public input.

The City of Fort Wayne is seeking a three-phase $10.3 million increase in annual operating revenues and approval to issue up to $70 million in long-term debt. The rate hike aims to cover rising operational costs and infrastructure improvements, including lead service line replacements and water distribution upgrades.

Residents can submit written comments via the OUCC’s website or by mail, ensuring their input is included in the formal case record. The OUCC will use these comments to prepare its formal testimony, due January 30, 2026…
