FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne police have captured a person they were looking for after a chase that resulted in the death of a pedestrian after an officer tried to stop a vehicle just north of downtown Thursday morning.
According to a press release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, at 6:02 a.m., an officer attempted to pull a motorist over near the intersection of Lawton Pl. and Griswold Drive. Instead of stopping, the driver fled. A short time later the driver turned onto Spy Run Avenue from Fourth Street and hit a pedestrian. The driver continued to flee and sideswiped a vehicle just north of that intersection and circled the area until it stopped in the 1400 block of Spy Run.
The driver, only described as an adult male, got out and took off. Police saw him throw a handgun into the grass. Witnesses who called 911 were able to help police find the man hiding in the backyard of a nearby home. They were able to find the gun…
