Fort Wayne Police Department mourns loss of officer after illness

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fellow officers and the family of a Fort Wayne Police Department officer are mourning his recent passing.

Officer Justin Koehl died Tuesday after a battle with long-term health issues. A GoFundMe* for the medical expenses specified Koehl had a brain tumor. He was in hospice when he passed away; he leaves behind a wife and two children.

The FWPD announced Koehl’s death on the department’s Facebook page Wednesday and changed their profile picture to memorialize him.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Officer Justin Koehl. Justin passed away on December 9, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with illness. Please keep his loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time, and kindly respect the family’s privacy as they grieve his loss.
