FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A Wind Advisory is in effect across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio until 7 p.m., with gusts expected to reach up to 50 mph. If you’re heading out, give semi trucks more space on the roads as they work to handle the strong crosswinds.
What to Expect Today
It’s a dramatic day weather-wise. Temperatures have taken a nosedive from yesterday’s near-record high of 64 degrees, plummeting into the upper teens this morning. By this afternoon, we’ll only recover to around 28 degrees — a swing of more than 35 degrees in less than 24 hours.
Cloudy skies will stick around all day with occasional snow showers developing. Here’s what we’re expecting on the ground:
- Far northern locations (closer to the toll roads): 1-2 inches
- Around Fort Wayne: Up to 1 inch
- South of US 30: Less than an inch, closer to 0.5 inches
The snow will wrap up this evening as the system moves out.
Tomorrow and Beyond
Don’t put away the winter gear just yet. Tuesday will still be breezy with gusts up to 25 mph, though winds will be noticeably lighter than today. The consistent breeze could blow some of the light snow we accumulate today back onto some roads. Be cautious on open, rural stretches where random patches of snow are possible. Temperatures will remain cold, staying in the upper 20s to low 30s.
New Year’s Eve snow chance: Scattered snow showers will be possible after noon on Wednesday, with up to an inch possible in some spots. Most of that snow should wrap up right around midnight — just in time to ring in 2026…
