Huntington, Wabash animal shelters closed after rescuing a combined 70+ animals

NORTHEAST INDIANA (WANE) — Huntington and Wabash county animal shelters are closed to the public after rescuing over 70 animals combined on Friday and Saturday.

Dec. 27, 2025, leaders at the Wabash County Animal Shelter were notified of a home southeast of downtown Wabash that had “quite a few beagles.” When the shelter’s manager, Jen Castro, and an animal control officer arrived, they discovered nearly 30 dogs spread across the property, left outside in the freezing temperatures.
