HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A 77-year-old man died early Wednesday morning after the car he was in went airborne and flipped several times before crashing into a highway ditch north of Markle.
The initial investigation revealed the man had been driving on County Road 200 North just after 12:45 a.m., headed east toward a dead end facing Interstate 69, according to a press release from the Huntington County Coroner’s Office. Investigators determined the driver likely didn’t realize the road ended; his SUV continued through the grass and crashed through an Indiana Department of Transportation fence before going airborne.
The SUV hit the edge of a southbound I-69 lane and went airborne again, hitting the top barrier cable before rolling front to rear several times, as described in the press release. The SUV eventually landed on its roof in the northbound ditch…
