Convicted felon who shot at New Haven officer sentenced to decades in prison

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) – A man who pleaded guilty to attempted murder after firing at a New Haven police officer was ordered to serve over four decades in prison for that case along with two other convictions.

Delshawn Young, 26, was handed a 42-year sentence in court Tuesday. That punishment accounts for 30 years in the attempted murder case, and 12 more years combined from prior cases.

In June 2025, a New Haven police officer said in court documents he caught Young speeding near Maplecrest Road and S.R. 930. Instead of pulling over when the officer turned his emergency lights on, Young shot at him multiple times.
