Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department’s call to celebrate winter returns Saturday, Jan. 24, with the 15th annual Winterval.
Throughout the day, downtown will come alive with ice carvers at various locations plus special activities at the Community Center, library, Headwaters Park, The Old Fort, and Promenade Park. Outside downtown, Lindenwood Nature Preserve and Fort Wayne Curling Club will also get in on the fun.
“Winterval has definitely changed and grown a lot over the course of our 15 years,” said Neil Miller, Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation’s outreach supervisor. “We’ve added a lot, we’ve changed a lot, but the formula for the event stays the same. We definitely want to get people out and about in winter and show people that there is still stuff to do, even if it’s a little bit chilly outside. So, that’s what Winterval boils down to.”
Bring on the cold
Yes, chilly is the name of the game when it comes to Winterval. While many of us prefer the unseasonably warm days of January, perhaps for just one day, the temperatures could fall and snow could be on the ground.
