Prosecutor rules Fort Wayne police justified in 2025 fatal shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Thursday, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office released its ruling on whether Fort Wayne police officers were liable for shooting and killing a man last year.

In September 2025, Fort Wayne police responded to an apartment on St. Marys Avenue to investigate a reported domestic disturbance. Police said someone at the home had an argument with an officer which then escalated into the officer getting stabbed.

Police said that’s when officers fired shots, killing the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 33-year-old Jacob Lee Leckenby. The coroner determined his cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds…
