FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Dangerous wind chills are gripping northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio on Friday, with snow expected to arrive late Saturday night into Sunday. Many schools across the region have announced delays or switched to eLearning due to the bitter conditions.
Friday: Dangerously Cold Wind Chills
Wind chills will plummet to as low as -15 degrees throughout the day, with some rural areas dropping to -25 degrees or lower. At these temperatures, frostbite can develop in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin.
A few flurries are possible in northern areas, but any accumulation will be minimal — just a trace on some surfaces.
What you should do:
- Limit time outdoors as much as possible
- Check on neighbors, elderly relatives, and anyone vulnerable to extreme cold
- Know the signs of frostbite: numbness, tingling, pale or waxy-looking skin, and blistering after rewarming
- Dress in layers and cover all exposed skin if you must go outside
Saturday: Dry During the Day, Snow Late
Saturday looks dry during daylight hours, but snow will arrive late at night as a system moves into the region.
Sunday: All-Day Snow & Winter Storm Watch
Expect all-day snow on Sunday. Northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio are currently under a Winter Storm Watch, with a possible upgrade to a Winter Storm Warning later Friday — similar to what has already been issued for areas to our south.
Snow accumulation forecast:
- For most northwest of Allen County: 3-5 inches
- Allen County & to the southeast: 5-8 inches
The exact dividing line could shift based on the storm track, which we’ll continue to monitor throughout Friday…
