FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Finding somewhere safe for a child to go after school can be difficult. It can be even more challenging to find somewhere where the kids are actually wanted. That’s what makes the Georgetown branch of the Allen County Public Library and its staff Positively Fort Wayne.
At the Allen County Public Library’s Georgetown branch, the quiet doesn’t last long after the final bell. The noise is the sound of a busy after-school crowd, dozens of kids who come here for the same reason: to hang out with friends in a safe place.
“We’re talking probably 70 to 80 kids come to the Georgetown library from Blackhawk Middle School after school. It’s a safe place, it’s a welcoming place. They know they can come here and hang out after school… But mostly they’re here to socialize and just kinda relax after a long day at school,” said Stephen Platt, the Georgetown branch’s manager.
