5 evacuate house fire in southeast Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Five people – 2 adults and 3 children – safely evacuated a burning home on Lillie St. Monday night. Two pets did not survive.

According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department, the fire was reported just before 10 p.m. at a home in the 4500 blk. of Lillie. When crews arrived, flames and smoke were coming from an attached garage and had started to spread to the kitchen.

Firefighters entered the home to make sure no one else was inside. They found two cats that did not survive.

It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. The house has heavy fire and smoke damage, and moderate water damage. The fire was hot enough that it also caused damage to a neighboring home. The cause of the fire is under investigation…
