Fort Wayne police officer retires after 38 years, completing century-long family legacy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Officer Jeff Burton joined the Fort Wayne Police Department in 1987 and retired this month after 38 years of service, marking the end of a family legacy that spans more than a century.

Burton served his entire career without taking a single sick day, a testament to his dedication to the job.

“Yeah. I enjoy it. I didn’t really want to leave… Mrs. Burton laid the law down, though… 38 years is long enough,” Burton said.
