FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) is celebrating Black History Month.
According to staff, the library’s February programming will focus on Black history, culture, community, and creativity.
The ACPL’s 2026 Black History Month programming for this February is as follows:
- Free Black History Month Breakfast
- What: A celebration of the Free Breakfast for School Children program developed by the Black Panther Party in 1969.
- When/Where:
- 10-11 a.m. on Saturdays at the Pontiac Branch
- Art in Circles: Art Inspired by Alma Thomas
- What: An exploration of color, pattern, and creativity through watercolor projects inspired by pioneering abstract artist Alma Thomas.
- When/Where:
- 4 p.m. on February 9 at the Waynedale Branch
- 11 a.m. on February 12 at the Main Library
- 2 p.m. on February 18 at the Aboite Branch
- The Art of Fun
- What: A combination of storytelling and visual creativity through the creation of collage art inspired by award-winning author and illustrator Christian Robinson.
- When/Where:
- 4 p.m. on February 10 at the Pontiac Branch
- 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on February 16 at the Main Library
- 3 p.m. on February 21 at the Little Turtle Branch
- 4 p.m. on February 24 at the Dupont Branch
- A Culinary Celebration of Black History
- What: A hands-on cooking program focused on kitchen skills, food traditions, and making simple recipes at home.
- When/Where:
- 3 p.m. on February 4 at the New Haven Branch
- 4 p.m. on February 18 at the Woodburn Branch
- Unboxed: Art, Identity & the Fashion of Self
- What: An exploration of personal and cultural identity through bold collage and sewing-inspired art projects.
- When/Where:
- 3 p.m. on February 21 at the Main Library
- 4 p.m. on February 24 at the Pontiac Branch
- 7:30 p.m. on February at the Hessen Cassel Branch
- The Blue Print: Indigo-Dyed Textiles
- What: A workshop exploring the history and technique of indigo dyeing while creating custom textile pieces.
- When/Where:
- 7 p.m. on February 9 at the Aboite Branch
- 6:30 p.m. on February 19 at the Tecumseh Branch
- 11 a.m. on February 21 at the Hessen Cassel Branch
- Gelli Plate Improvisational Collage
- What: A workshop combining printmaking and collage techniques to create expressive, layered artwork inspired by the work of Romare Bearden.
- When/Where:
- 6:30 p.m. on February 12 at the Waynedale Branch
- 7 p.m. on February 15 at the Main Library
- 4 p.m. on February 17 at the Shawnee Branch

- Hair Me Out: Textured Paintings
- What: An art experience celebrating hair, heritage, identity, and self-expression.
