McKinley elected to State Senate after Zay steps down

MARION, Ind. (WANE) — Nick McKinley has been elected to the Indiana State Senate to complete Andy Zay’s term after he stepped down at the end of last year.

During Saturday’s caucus, the Republican Precinct Committeemen selected McKinley to replace Zay. He will be sworn in on Monday to serve as State Senator for Indiana District 17, which covers Grant, Huntington, and Wabash counties. Although this term will expire in November, McKinley will appear on the Republican Primary ballot in May.

McKinley has previously pursued a career in technology and business operations before he moved on to become a police officer with the South Bend Police Department, where he was given two Life Saving Awards.

He later moved to Marion, Indiana, where he opened up an insurance and financial services business and served as an At-Large City Councilman and City Council President. Before being selected as a State Senator, he served as Chairman of the Grant County Republican Party…
