FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Trailing 3-0 less than seven minutes in to Saturday’s game against Toledo, the Komets’ comeback attempt fell short in a 5-4 loss to the Walleye.
Toledo extends their lead in the ECHL’s Central Division over Fort Wayne. The Walleye now have 58 points with a 26-10-6 record while Fort Wayne has 55 points with a 24-12-7 record.
Colby Ambrosio, Nate Roy and Tanner Kelly each scored to give the Walleye a commanding 3-0 lead at 6:42 of the first period. The Komets yanked Sam Jonsson from the net and inserted Nathan Day. From there, the Komets settled in and chipped away at the deficit. Trevor Janicke put the Komets on the board at 13:37. Tanner Dickinson extended Toledo’s lead back to two goals, but Jalen Smereck buried a goal from the blue line at 18:21 to make it a 4-2 game at the first intermission…
