Heating for livestock sparked fire that spread across 2 barns south of Fort Wayne

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Firefighters extinguished a fire Monday across two barns just south of Maples Road and Fort Wayne city limits, saving as many animals as they could.

Crews were called to the 9300 block of South Anthony Boulevard around 8:30 p.m., according to Fort Wayne dispatch.

Southwest Fire District Chief Donald Patnoude later confirmed firefighters believe supplemental heating for livestock ignited the flames in a small barn, spreading to a larger barn nearby before firefighters arrived.

Fire crews evacuated many animals, Patnoude said, and “not all escaped.”…
