Missing Michigan woman found dead in DeKalb County, ruled homicide

CORUNNA, Ind. (WFFT) – A woman reported missing in Michigan was found dead in DeKalb County, and an autopsy confirmed her death as a homicide. Authorities believe the killing happened in Michigan.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said deputies got a call at 11:18 a.m. on Friday, February 13, about a body seen in the 2100 block of County Road 17 near Corunna. A local resident reported the finding while walking in the area. Deputies found the deceased person in a marshy area not far from the road.

That evening, detectives suspected the deceased was Shana M. Umbreit, a missing woman from Harbor Beach, Michigan, roughly 270 miles northeast of Corunna. Forensic testing later confirmed her identity…
