Fort Wayne Police Department was called to a scene at Baer Road where an armed individual, reported to be in the midst of a mental health crisis, required intervention, according to a statement from FWPD’s Public Information Officer Detective Kylie Reum.
The response by the officers aimed to peacefully negotiate with the subject and get them to agree to a mental health evaluation; when initial efforts did not succeed, support was brought in from specialized units including the Emergency Services Team (EST), the Crisis Response Team (CRT), and the Air Support Unit (ASU), all converging to address the delicate situation as swiftly and safely as possible a coordinated effort that stands as a testament to the multi-layered response protocol the department has in place for such incidents…
