One pet dead, another rescued with homeowner in morning fire near Georgetown

FORT WAYNE, IND. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to an early morning fire near Georgetown Square on the northeast side on Sunday. According to a press release, FWFD responded to the 7500 block of Antebellum Boulevard just after 4:30 a.m. for a house fire with one man and two dogs still inside.

On scene, crews were met with a two-story home with no fire visible from the exterior. One person and two dogs were inside the home at the time of FWFD’s arrival.

Firefighters entered the smoke-filled home and began helping the man down a ladder from the second floor. The man said he was alerted to the fire by the smoke alarm, but couldn’t go downstairs to exit the home because of the smoke. Medics checked the man and determined he was uninjured…
