‘This is about safety’: City says e-bike fines and definitions protect rather than punish

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Is having rules and the possibility for punishment enough to keep rowdy e-bicycle riders at bay? Creators of several newly presented city ordinances think so.

“This is about safety, this is not about policing or enforcement,” said 4th District Councilman Scott Myers.

Tuesday night, Myers introduced a set of ordinances which would more closely regulate the classes, wattages and speeds of e-bicycles, e-scooters, golf carts and other power-driven mobility devices, or power vehicles. $15, $200, even $2500 fines could await those who do not adhere to these new rules…
