Fort Wayne nonprofit issues urgent call for drivers to keep medical rides available

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Community Transportation Network is asking the public for help. The Fort Wayne nonprofit, which provides rides to low-income seniors and people with disabilities, needs to hire seven drivers to keep up with demand for critical medical transportation.

CTN Executive Director Justin Clupper said the organization was already short on drivers when it received a grant from the Cathy Fitzgerald Trust to expand its routes. Without the additional staff, he said, some riders will not be able to get to their appointments.

‘Their only option’

“It’s very hard to tell someone no, because you know that we are their only option, or one of their only options,” Clupper said. “So many of our riders don’t have family that are available to them, or their family works full time, and they can’t get away to get them to where they need to go.”

The appointments at stake include dialysis and chemotherapy treatments.
