Garrett Common Council member’s son sentenced for theft, ordered to pay $24K in restitution

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – As a Garrett Common Council member and his wife await their trials, their son was sentenced for stealing equipment from his ex-wife’s coffee business.

Warrants were issued nearly a year ago for Councilman Bobby Diederich, his son, Ryan Diederich, and his wife, Julie Diederich, all for felony theft and obstruction of justice charges. In February last year, Ryan Diederich’s ex-wife and owner of The Grind Coffee House, Kayla Wegman, reported to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office that she believed her ex-husband and his parents had stolen her equipment.

She told Detective Thomas Olinske that she previously reported the matter to Garrett Police Department Chief Gerald Kline and Captain Craig Pebble, but said “it did not seem anything was truly being investigated” by the department, court records show. The video surveillance system was shut down during the theft, and only four people had access to the system, including Bobby and Ryan Diederich…
