Elvis leaves the building: Fort Wayne’s ‘Elvis on the Roof’ retires

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The King of Rock ‘n Roll will take his final bow Wednesday in Fort Wayne — but fans won’t be saying goodbye forever.

The man behind the Elvis on the Roof fundraiser, Greg Hevel, is retiring from the role after 16 years. Each summer until now, Hevel would grace the roof of Heritage Park, a local assisted living residence, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association and American Senior Communities. Hevel would wear a full Elvis costume to dance and sing on the roof of the assisted living facility.

“To give back, you know, we never expected 16 years ago this event to continue on like it has,” Hevel said to WANE 15 in 2024. “Now, the city of Fort Wayne, they pretty much expect it. They look forward to it, and I enjoy it immensely just seeing the smiles, the faces, and the joy of the residents and the family members. It’s just a great time.”…
