ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – The rezoning required to bring a nearly 700-home development to southwest Allen County was approved at Thursday’s Allen County Plan Commission meeting.
The Communities of Calusa would be comprised of 689 units just off Coverdale Road between Ferguson and Winters roads. That’s minutes away from the Fort Wayne International Airport. Before it’s built, the 170-acre property had to be rezoned from agricultural to residential.
In the weeks leading up to Thursday’s meeting, nearby residents voiced opposition to the project over the environmental impact and proximity to the airport. During a public hearing, the developer said Communities of Calusa ensures the kind of growth the county is striving for, according to the “All in Allen” comprehensive plan.
