Southwest Allen County Schools board to consider resolution regarding proposed quarry

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Plans for a major industrial complex that would include among other things a quarry, with an asphalt and concrete plant in southwest Allen County has garnered significant opposition since being announced earlier this month.

Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) appears to be ready to join that opposition.

A developer wants to rezone 1600 acres which sits within the SACS district for the project. The land is located in an area bounded by Homestead Road to the west, railroad tracks to the north, I-69 to the east and the IU Health complex to the south. Lafayette Meadows Elementary is the closest SACS school to the proposed project.

Quarry opponents build their case

The SACS school board will hold a Special School Board Meeting Monday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. where it will take up an agenda item dealing with a “Resolution Expressing Concern and Opposition to Proposed Quarry Development.”…
