‘It’s going to destroy the area’: SW Allen County residents meet again over quarry proposal

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Dozens of concerned residents gathered on Tuesday night to build up their movement against a proposed quarry in southwest Allen County.

This is the first meeting they have held, and it aimed at informing neighbors on the quarry itself as well as what the decision-making process for the project will look like. They also provided other ways to get involved with the cause.

“It’s the most important,” Josh Clements, a resident against the quarry, said. “I think it’s the only tool we really have, especially, you know, most of us are just neighbors. We’re just trying to figure out how to go about this. It feels a little bit like David versus Goliath; we hope it’s not that way. So we’re just partly, partly trying to network and just see how we would go about this.”

Tuesday night included some leaders from homeowners associations and other residents, along with members of the Southwest Allen County School (SACS) Board. This meeting also follows the decision to pass a resolution opposing the potential quarry by the SACS board on Monday night…
