FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Urban League will be home to an accessible health clinic with a wide range of services once renovations at the Hanna Street nonprofit are complete.
Wednesday, the league held a groundbreaking ceremony for its project that will transform the building’s lower level into a “comprehensive developmental health clinic serving children and families across the region,” according to a press release. The clinic will be operated under Alliance Health Centers, an income-based group that aims to combine high-quality care and affordability. The clinic aims to open early this summer, officials said at Wednesday’s ceremony.
The Fort Wayne Urban League will house the clinic for at least the first five years. It will provide critical services including screenings and diagnoses for autism and other developmental disorders, as well as a broad range of integrated medical, behavioral, rehabilitation and therapeutic services, according to the release. A full list of services is below:
- Developmental pediatric evaluations and diagnostic services
- General pediatric care and family medicine
- Midwifery and prenatal services
- Mental health counseling and psychiatry
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services
- Intervention services tailored to children’s developmental needs
- Collaborative partnerships with local school districts, including Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) and East Allen County Schools (EACS), through bi-annual meetings with special education directors
- A formal referral relationship with First Steps for early intervention services
- Parent and caregiver education programming to support families
“Upon completion of the renovation, having a health clinic available to a very underserved population of people will be extremely valuable to the health and wellness of those we serve,” said Aisha R. Arrington, President and CEO of the Fort Wayne Urban League.
