FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Thursday, the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne announced plans for a new branch and offices near Foster Park.
The upcoming Turpin Family YMCA will be in the Summit Athletic Center off Rudisill Boulevard on The Summit’s campus. Construction and renovations are scheduled to begin in August, with an estimated opening in early 2027, according to a press release from the YMCA.
The 25,000-square-foot branch will be scaled down compared to other locations. Although it will not have a pool, the facility is keeping its existing two basketball courts. There will be programming such as group classes, youth sports and activities for older adults. Parents using the YMCA can take advantage of up to two hours of child care through the Child Watch program.
The branch’s name is a nod to Allen County Commissioner Ron Turpin and his wife Kathy, who donated funds for the project. Turpin spoke at Thursday’s press conference; a portion of his comments are in the video below:…
