It’s a bigger deal than you might think! In the nearly 30 years since the steakhouse first opened on Oak Lawn Avenue, Al Biernat’s has opened only one other location (Al Biernat’s North near Addison in 2017). It’s unclear whether this new downtown Fort Worth location, opening at 913 Houston Street in late 2027, will be called Al Biernat’s West, but it does have the blessing of the late restaurateur’s wife, Jeannie. Plus, as Al’s nephew and the restaurant’s general manager, Brad Fuller, puts it to the Dallas Morning News: “you can’t discount the Taylor Sheridan Effect.”
What feels notable to me is that, to my recollection, there aren’t a lot of examples of spiritually Dallas restaurants, like Al Biernat’s, having a Fort Worth counterpart. Or vice versa. The two cities have always had distinct culinary identities. Leave it to Al to bridge the gap.
