Fort Worth Zoo Celebrates Birth of Their First-Ever Rockhopper Penguin Chick

It’s been a big year so far for the Forth Worth Zoo in 2024, and it doesn’t look like that will slow down any time soon!

The Texas-based zoo has a lot to celebrate, and the latest centers around a very cute penguin. Take a look!

On January 25, the zoo announced the birth of another baby, this time the first hatching of a female Rockhopper Penguin chick .

Meet Darcy, a Rockhopper Penguin!

According to a news release, the zoo shared a female Rockhopper Penguin has joined their family, and they’ve named her Darcy .

On Instagram, the zoo shared a sweet video of Darcy and more details about her birth and why this is such extraordinary news.

“Meet our first-ever Rockhopper Penguin chick to hatch in Fort Worth Zoo history!” they shared in an Instagram reel.

“Darcy was born on Dec. 21 and is already about 11 inches tall. During her first exam, she weighed about 2.65 pounds — just big enough to fit in the palms of your hands,” the announcement continued.
